MALAYSIA INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP (MIS)

The Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) is an initiative by the Malaysian Government to attract the best brain from around the world to pursue advanced academic studies in Malaysia. This scholarship aims to support Malaysian Government's effort to attract, motivate and retain talented human capital from abroad.
Talented international students with excellent academic records and outstanding co-curricular backgrounds are welcomed to apply for this scholarship and further their studies in any selected and well-established Malaysian public and private universities. This scholarship is divided into two (2) categories of study: Postgraduate and Post-doctoral Studies
ELIGIBLITY CRITERIA
To be eligible for Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS), applicants must fit the following criteria:-
  1. Not be more than 40 years (Postgraduate) and 45 years (Post-doctoral) of age during application.
  2. Obtained a minimum of Second Class Upper (Honours) or a CGPA of 3.5/4.0 at Bachelor Degree Level for Masters Degree applicants and for PhD candidates must possess CGPA 3.5/4.0 or very good result at Masters degree level in a similar field of intended PhD study. In addition, for post-doctoral programme, the selection will be evaluated based on the number of books produced, refereed/non refereed journals, portfolio and patent copyright. The Post-Doctoral candidate must have excellent reputation in research and possesses knowledge related to the research to be carried out.
  3. Took one of the following English Language Proficiency Test not more than two years before the date of application. The list of tests and minimum scores required:
    1. IELTS Academic Test with a score of at least 6.5; or
    2. TOEFL paper-based test with a score of at least 580 or computer-based test with a score of at least 230 or internet-based test with a score at least 92.
  4. In excellent health condition and certified by a Certified Doctor/Medical Professional. The cost of medical examination is to be borne by the applicants.
  5. Wrote a proposal that is relevant to the needs and interests of Malaysia (research-based programme only).
  6. Has applied for and gained admission to postgraduate and post-doctoral studies in Malaysia (conditional letters of offer will be accepted at the time of application or has a confirmation of acceptance or affiliation with the universities in Malaysia).
VALUE OF SCHOLARSHIPS
Each scholarship consists of:-
  1. Air tickets from recipient’s capital city to Malaysia
  2. An approved tuition fees
  3. Monthly maintenance allowance
  4. Annual grant for books and internal travel
  5. Medical / Health Insurance
  6. Installation and Termination grant
  7. Thesis allowance
  8. Visa
PRIORITY STUDY AREAS
Field of studies is in the following priority areas:
  1. Science and Engineering
  2. Agriculture and Fisheries
  3. Economics and Islamic Finance
  4. Information and Communication Technology
  5. Biotechnology
  6. Biosecurity and Food Safety
  7. Infrastructure and Utility
  8. Environmental Studies
  9. Health not including nursing, medicine, clinical pharmacy.
* Applicants may choose any related course within the field/areas mentioned above
SELECTION CRITERIA
Applications will be considered according to the following selection criteria:-
  1. High-level academic achievement
  2. The quality of the research proposal and its potential contribution towards advancement of technology and human well-being.
  3. Excellent communication, writing and reading skills in English Language
GENERAL CONDITION OF AWARD
  1. Scholarship holder must undertake full-time studies for postgraduate and post-doctoral studies at a campus of Malaysian Universities.It is the responsibility of the scholarship holders to confirm admission to the university.
  2. Scholarship holders must not change their programme during tenure of the scholarship except with written permission from their university and the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.
  3. Scholarship holders must follow the approved programmes and abide by the university’s rules, regulations and codes of conduct.
  4. Any suspension from the university will result in immediate suspension of award. Monthly allowances are not payable during suspension, including suspension due to illness.
  5. It is the responsibility of successful candidates to apply for and meet the requirements for the issuing of an appropriate entry visa including medical examination. The offer of the scholarship does not guarantee the granting of a visa.
  6. Scholarship holders must maintain satisfactory progress and good standing as stipulated by their host university and degree programme, or the scholarship will be withdrawn.
  7. The scholarships are tenable in Malaysian universities and research must be carried out in Malaysia.
  8. Scholarship holders are not allowed to take any paid employment during their tenure unless with written approval from the host university.
HOW TO APPLY
All applications should be made ONLINE through Ministry of Higher Education’s website at https://payloan.mohe.gov.my/INTER/ starting from 15th January 2013 until 31st March 2013
STEP 1
  • REGISTER your Passport Number or National Identication Number, password and email address.
  • LOG IN to online application form and fill in all section completely.
  • Please ensure all informations are correct before you print the application and logout.
STEP 2
  • Please attach printed application form together with the following documents:
    1. Recent passport size photograph.
    2. Completed Medical Report. [download]
    3. A certified copy of current passport showing evidence of citizenship.
    4. A certified copy of academic transcript, testimonials and/or references relating to the relevant study, co-curriculum activities, achievements.
    5. A clear and precise study or research plan
    6. A certified copy of English Language proficiency certificate (Test of English as a Foreign Language/TOEFL or International English Language Testing Service/IELTS)
    7. Curriculum Vitae.
    8. Admission letter from Malaysian University.
    9. Two letters of recommendation from two (2) people who can act as referees to support your application. [download]

  • You are required to complete the two Letters of Recommendation from two referees, Endorsement Form and Medical Report. Please bring printed ONLINE application form and required documents to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the relevant agency responsible for the MIS scholarship in your country to get the endorsement.
STEP 3
  • Scan all documents stated above in PDF format and LOGIN to MIS Online Application. [How to convert documents to PDF format]
  • You are required to attach the documents and click SUBMIT button to submit the application. You will see the notification message when the process is done. All the application is fully online. No hard copy is required. Bring the hard copy of application form and original certificate during the interview session.

The Binc Scholarship Program is open to bookstore employees, bookstore owners, former Borders employees and dependents* of bookstore employees, owners and former Borders employees who plan to enroll in full or part-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for at least half of the 2013-2014 academic year.

*Dependents include children under the age of 25, spouses and qualified same-sex partners.
Up to 35 awards totaling $100,000 will be granted. Scholarship Management Services will review all applications based on three equally weighted measurements:
1) Financial need
2) Academic performance
3) Leadership, participation and other non-academic criteria

Description:
One full-time Postgraduate Scholarship is available for suitably qualified candidates with a good honours degree in science or engineering with a major in mathematics or mathematical physics, to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in Applied Mathematics. The project is to investigate and describe critical solutions of integrable and near-integrable nonlinear systems.
This is an opportunity to obtain research training in a highly regarded team collaborating on a project named "Geometric construction of critical solutions of nonlinear systems” under the direction of Professor Nalini Joshi as part of her 2012 Georgina Sweet Australian Laureate Fellowship. The team is based at the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Sydney.

Eligibility:
Applicants should have completed four years of undergraduate study and attained Honours Class 1 or equivalent with a good grounding in mathematics. Knowledge of differential equations, analysis, asymptotic analysis, special functions or geometry related to nonlinear and/or integrable systems will be highly regarded.

Amount awarded:
The scholarship provides a living allowance valued at AUD 24,653 per annum (tax exempt) for qualified students undertaking a full-time degree of Doctor of Philosophy by research, who are citizens of any country. If awarded to an international student, a tuition fees scholarship will also be provided.  Each scholarship will be for three years subject to satisfactory progress, with a maximum extension of six months.  A thesis allowance and support for conference travel will also be available.
It is expected that the scholarship normally will be taken up by 31 March in the year for which it is awarded, although, subject to approval, a later start date may be possible.

ABRS offers small grants to Honours, Masters and PhD students in Australian institutions who wish to travel to national or international conferences relevant to both the student’s research program in taxonomy or systematics and the ABRS Research Priorities.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be students currently enrolled in an Honours/Masters (including a research component) or PhD degree in the field of taxonomy or systematics at an Australian institution. The conference must be relevant to taxonomy or systematics and to the ABRS Research Priorities. Preference may be given to applicants who receive matching funds from their home institution or other source. Applicants may not apply retrospectively for travel to conferences they have already attended.

Amount awarded:
A maximum of $1000 is available for an international conference and $500 for travel within Australia.
