2 PhD Scholarships in experimental semiconductor-based quantum information processing

The Center for Quantum Devices at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, announces the opening of two PhD positions in coupled multi-electron spin qubits in GaAs and other heterostructured semiconductors.
Research involves experimental design, fabrication of submicron devices and associated electronics, radio-frequency measurement in a dilution refrigerator, data acquisition and analysis, and scientific writing.

The position

The position is for three or four years and expected to lead to a Ph.D. degree at the University of Copenhagen.
The University of Copenhagen is oldest university in Denmark founded in 1479. With its approximately 37000 students and 7500 employees. The Center for Quantum Devices is a Basic Research Center established in 2012 and supported by the Danish National Research Foundation.

The candidate

The successful applicant will enroll as a Ph.D. student at the University of Copenhagen. The Ph.D. program, in addition to the project work, comprises participation in courses or international Ph.D. schools and some activity as teaching assistant.
Applicants must have completed at least one year of a relevant M. Sc. Degree, or, for US applicants, an Undergraduate Degree in a related area, at the time of start of the appointment.
The candidate must have strong background in physics at the masters level, with advanced coursework in quantum mechanics and condensed matter physics, as well as significant experimental experience. Experience and coursework in electronics is also helpful.

Terms of appointment and payment

Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central organization. The salary depends on seniority, as agreed between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Currently, starting salaries are about 25,000 DKK (€ 3,330) per month for Ph.D. students - plus full benefits including pension. The position is open for candidates of all nationalities.

Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS), Singapore offers merit scholarship for international students. These scholarships are open to new students for pursuing a pre degree, degree or master’s degree programme at five renowned university partners from the United Kingdom, Australia and France. Each scholarship is tenable only for the academic years for which it is awarded and will cover the subsidised portion of the tuition fee. About the Scholarship
The International Student Scholarships are a testament to Bond University’s commitment to quality and outstanding international students. These scholarships are available to international students who have demonstrated outstanding academic ability (academic merit based scholarships).

Value

Availability
  • 10 x 25% scholarships annually
  • 10 x 50% scholarships annually
Eligibility
  • Available for international students only, for undergraduate or postgraduate study.
  • Applicants must currently be or have previously been in the top 5% of their high school or university class.
  • Students will be selected for scholarships based on outstanding academic ability. In addition, demonstrated strong leadership skills and extensive involvement in extracurricular activities will also be considered.
  • Students whose first language is not English must refer to and meet Bond University’s standard. English entry requirements for undergraduate applicants.
  • English entry requirements for postgraduate applicants.
     
Selection Criteria
Successful applicants will be awarded these scholarships based on their ability to meet the eligibility criteria outlined
Application Submission
All international students who have made an application to study at Bond University (by the scholarship closing date for each semester) will be considered for an International Student Scholarship.
It is recommended that when students complete a Bond University Application Form, they submit a personal statement (outlining why you should be awarded a Bond scholarship), references, resume and certified copies of other relevant documentation to assist in supporting your application.
As part of the selection process, all shortlisted applicants will be required to participate in a telephone interview.
Selections for each intake of scholarship students are assessed based on academic merit. Should your submission not be successful at the time of application, your details will be reassessed for future semester intakes up until the point of acceptance.
Please note: Only short-listed applicants will be contacted for an interview. If you are not contacted for an interview by the dates stated in the general information above, then you can assume you have been unsuccessful in your application. Students will not be notified of their unsuccessful application in writing.

Notes and eligibility criteria:
  1. The Open Scholarship Scheme is only open to applicants already holding an offer to study for a degree programme at the University of Leicester.
  2. Candidates for Open Scholarships must be classified by the University as international students for fees purposes.
  3. For Open Scholarships, candidates must not be in receipt of a full scholarship (tuition fees and living costs) from any other sources. Students may only receive one partial scholarship from the University, whether it is an Open or Departmental scholarship. Students with partial scholarships from other sources will be considered.
  4. Open Scholarships are awarded in the form of a reduction in tuition fees payable.
  5. These scholarships are not available for distance learning students.
